What is melasma?

Melasma is a skin condition which causes increased patches of pigmentation primarily on the face, although it can also occur on other sun-exposed areas of the body. While it can occur in men, 90% of cases occur in women. It generally appears as a brown or tan patch of discoloration occurring on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip or around the mouth. Melasma can be triggered by sun, hormone therapy, or pregnancy, in which case it is called chloasma. Although it is not a harmful condition, it can have a dramatic effect on one’s appearance. To a trained professional melasma is easy to identify, however, it is important to see a qualified skin therapist in order to appropriately treat it correctly. At Chi Skin Rejuvenation Clinics, our therapists have extensive experience treating many skin issues, including melasma. Chi skin therapists can help you overcome its visible effects by restoring your skin to a clear, healthy, glowing, pigment-free state.

Chi melasma treatment options

At Chi we don’t offer a one size fits all solution to treating our melasma clients, we take the time to understand you, the exact nature and degree of your melasma. By performing an initial consultation and examination, we can gather the information necessary to customize a treatment plan to you. As a result, we may choose a singular form of treatment, or we may prescribe an entire regimen to get the best results. In either case, your individualized treatment will be done using state-of-the-art procedures performed by therapists with a proven record of excellence.
