What to expect with my diathermy treatment?

It is important and standard practice prior to any diathermy treatment at Chi Skin Rejuvenation Clinic to have a comprehensive consultation where you can communicate your goals for the treatment and your Chi therapist can assess your problem areas and devise the best course of action. At this time, a thorough assessment of your skin concerns is performed, any post diathermy treatment requirements detailed and your overall expected outcome communicated to you.

On the day of your diathermy treatment, you will feel extremely confident you are in great hands and excited for the upcoming results. You will be led into one of our state of the art treatment rooms with the latest technology available in use. During the procedure, you may experience slight discomfort although this is relatively minor. You will be excited by the instant results as your skin concern will be removed there and then. Upon completion of your diathermy treatment you will be given post treatment home care, instructed to keep the area uncovered and clean to allow it to naturally heal. There may be some skin discolouration post treatment up until the point the area has fully healed.

What is diathermy?

Diathermy is a safe and effective cosmetic treatment used to treat skin problems such as moles, warts, skin tags, spider veins, dilated and broken capillaries, red spots, white spots, and milia. Diathermy gives blemish free smooth skin, instantaneously. It is a bloodless procedure and does not require any stitches. It is used primarily for cosmetic treatment of the face, neck, shoulder, chest and back. These are the areas of the body which get exposed to the harmful effects of the sun and the environment and more often develop skin problems.

How does diathermy work?

Diathermy involves the use of high energy current to produce intense heat which destroys the lesion. The area to be treated is made numb by applying local anaesthetic and then a fine hair-thin needle is introduced in the lesion to pass the current. The heat produced destroys the tissue of the lesion and the lesion disappears instantaneously. After the treatment, mild swelling and redness may result which will resolve in few hours. The superficial sore is left open and allowed to heal on its own and forms a scab. A mild antiseptic cream may be given to apply till the sore heals.
